A very popular part of modern weddings is the unity ceremony. The two most common types of unity ceremony are the Unity Candle and the Sand Ceremony.
Do you want a candle ceremony but like the wording for the sand ceremony better? No problem! We can switch them around with a little rewording to make any option appropriate for your ceremony.
Unity Candle
Option 1
The lighting of the center candle represents not only the union of Bride and Groom in marriage, but the unity formed in this new family in which your lives will now shine as one family. Light the candle.
Option 2
Bride and Groom, the two separate candles symbolize your separate lives, separate families and separate sets of friends. It is appropriate that your mothers each lit these candles, as it is from these women from which the light of your life first shown forth. I ask that each of you take one of the lit candles and that together you light the center candle. Light the candle.
This singular flame represents the combination of your lives.
Option 3
The individual candles represent your lives before today. Lighting the center candle represents that your two lives are now joined to one light, and represents the joining of your two families and circles of friends into one. Light the candle.
Sand Ceremony
Option 1
When you blend the sand together it is represents the uniting of the bride and groom into one family.
As you each hold your sand, the sand represents your lives to this moment; individual and unique.
Pour the sand.
As you combine your sand together, your lives also join together as one family.
Option 2
Life's moments are as grains of sands, forever moving and shifting with the winds of time. Today, Bride and Groom, you are making your eternal commitment to one another, blending the sands of your lives together. The separate vessels of sand you each hold represent your lives up to this moment.
